Wow you guys sure post a lot in one day! I have been in grad class all day, still need a half hour with the produce department at 0815 tomorrow and then go to the shop and get a truck assigned. Then it's back to the office to get a driver counselor and a driver manager. Looks like I'm not getting out of Dodge until Tuesday earliest. I am going to look into the possibility of going to recover a truck, as there is a better cjance of getting one with an APU, but that is for tomorrow. The hotel for students and the one I'm sitting in are both pretty much dives. No wifi at the student hotel, but there is here. It quit on me a few minutes ago and I had to switch to my Sprint card.

    The Challenger Thanks this.

    Hey IP-

I'm with you. Our situations are very similar. I had 2 surgeries in about 17 months. I had a laminectomy/microdiscectomy at L5-S1 in Nov 05, and followed that up with a 360 degree radial fusion. This is where they cut you front and back. Now, the upside is that I am probably better than I was. I have been signed off to do ANY job or play ANY sports (and I do play sports) since 2007. That wasn't good enough for the company. It's pretty likely after you have a back surgery you will have to do a Funcitonal Capacity Exam when and if you come back for just about any company. I took the Cymbalta ONLY for it's mild pain-relieving qualities, not because I have a mental disorder!! Again, even though this drug is not on any banned list you can find anywhere, that's not good enough for the company. I just really wanted to share so that other people wouldn't be blind-sided like I was. I did a major amount of research and homework so that I knew exactly what would be required of me before I ever went. If I'd known, I obviously would have been off the med, taken the FCE, and had all of my ducks in a row beforehand so that I wouldn't have been delayed 5 weeks.

On another note, hang in there IP. I know what you're probably going through as far as recovering. It ain't for the weak. But you can be better, and in my case, better than I was. You'll get there, just be patient. (Not be A patient!!)

    Hey Big-

Good luck with everything. I'm sure you'll do fine. Unfortunately, you may not get this for awhile because I don't think the school hotel has wifi. But I'm having a good thought for you anyway!

    Fozz-

Glad to hear you almost have your large ride. I had heard exactly what you mentioned, go and recover a truck with an APU (SHHHH....don't tell anyone!). Anyway, if you're stuck in town the entire holiday and you need anything, feel free to hit me up. You have my Facebook and my phone is listed I think. If not you can always shoot me a message. I will just be hanging around the house all weekend, we made no plans for Labor Day weekend (as I thought I would be in school!).

If you need a ride to Wally World for some groceries, or you want to hit any stores just let me know and I will try to help you out. I'm about 40 or so minutes from the terminal and I'd be happy to help.

I can tell you that when I asked this question of my recruiter, she said you can request if you know someone and you can get them to train you if they are free (don't have another student). However, that was a recruiter telling me that, and as you know the recruiter will tell you alot of things that may or may not actually happen. I'd ask the question of someone other than a recuiter, like Mike the assistant director of the school. Then I would get on the horn to your buddy and tell him not to accept any students in the next couple of weeks if you want him.

At the very least, yes I would prefer to start my career with them over anyone else I've seen. But to answer your question, I am not sure if I will do my CDL training there or not. It would mean waiting to even begin until October 5th. That is the first class session that I can attend based on the requirements of their doc and my situation. That's a long time. I could theoretically go somewhere independent for school and be done and ready for orientation by Oct 5th if I wanted to. No school and 98% of the other companies would med-hold me for what Stevens did. Basically, I'm healthy and ready to go for everyone except them. I don't know what I'm going to do, but I will be exploring my options and checking some stuff out this weekend. It is not possible for me to go a month with no income. So, I either start school earlier or try to find an interim gig.
