There are numerous packing lists on this forum, just do a search. There is an entire thread on packing written by veteran truckers. I'm pretty sure you can also find a .pdf on Stevens website that tells you what to bring. When you get your pre-hire packet it's also in there.

Hey Big! Sounds like you are still in good spirits after that bus ride. Amazing! Which hotel are you in and how is your room? Keep us up to date as to how things go at Stevens. Good luck!

Yea guys the bus ride wasnt bad at all. Except for the stupid ppl that u know u always have to deal with, come on its greyhound lol. Other than that i enjoyed the ride. Were stayin at the crosslands in mesquite. The room is small but efficient. The rooms are very nice just small. They have two twin beds, and the rooms have a stove a mini frig and ours has silver wear and cups and plates. Not a bad hotel at all, im happy so far how stevens has put us up. There are stores in walkn distance, me and my roomate went to kroger and bought some groceries and split the cost. Luckily i got stuck with someone cool, hes older than me but hes funny an cool. Well had a very long day and a half, that 28hr bus ride takes a lot out of me, my roomate came from california. But ill be back on tomm. If u guys have any other questions just let me know.

I think that is a good number, and one I plan to shoot for also. However, all of the licensing will run you about $60. At the time you apply for these exams, you will be a resident of Texas, not a non-resident. They tell everyone to use the hotel as their residence that doesn't live in Texas, and it's legal to do so.

However, I wouldn't let a lack of funds prevent me from going. As long as you have the license exam fees, you only need to cover a couple of days of lunch and dinner. Your breakfast is free at the hotel. You can eat lunch during class days at their roach coach, it's actually got good food, I ate there. You will get your first $70 loan on Weds of the first week if you pass the physical/drug screen, etc. If you don't, you won't have to worry about it anyway because you will be on the bus home. After that, you will get a $70 loan each week. When you leave with your trainer, you will get the $350 less taxes on the first Friday you're out on the road. So, that said, while it's a good idea to have $300-400 on you, you can get by with less. Lots of students do. Some guys showed up penniless and I'm sure they're still there. You can do it if you want it bad enough. Just get yourself about $200 and you should do great.

    Hey Fozzy-

Since you're original thread got merged into this one, I can't find your original first post. What date did you show up to start class at Stevens? I was just going to check the date with when you got your truck to see how long it might take. Thanks!
