Only thing I could say about them is they have good training, I went to there orentation and left in 2 day they want you go out with a trainer then come back and train again with another student as team crazy in all youll be train for about 6 month with little money to live off,, they have good truck tho.

Stevens has a horrible reputation for low paychecks. People still flock to the company because they have cute trucks. The only person impressed by the trucks as they plod down the highway, is the driver driving the truck. No one else is impressed and figures the driver is living off his wifes paycheck because he doesn't have the initiative to get a real job with a company that provides good paychecks; but that's OK because the truck is cute.Donnie1962, Cory Portenier, Voodoo Pyg and 1 other person Thank this.

A short while ago, I had spoken to a recruiter at Stevens Transportation, to find out some information. He emphasized these things:
1) There has NEVER been a layoff since since Stevens Transportation has been in business
2) There is consistent year round work for the drivers. There are loads to be delivered to and from all 48 states. Most of them are temperature controlled reefer loads. In addition to hauling both frozen and fresh foods, Stevens Transportation also hauls pharmaceuticals and other "SENSITIVE" loads, often requiring "SERIOUS" temperature control.
3) The most senior company truck driver has been with Stevens Transportation for 37 years.
4) A good solo driver can earn $40,000 or more per year. I asked about the pay and benefits, along with school.
When I gave the recruiter this information about myself, he had said that I would be the type of person who could be sent out on the road for extended periods of time:
1) single with no kids, along with no alimony or child support to worry about
2) both of my parents have passed away, parental eldercare responsibilities are behind me
3) nearest relative and family member is 1,500 miles away from where I live
4) live in a 1 bedroom apartment, no house or property to worry about
5) have no criminal record along with no DUI's or DWI's
6) have been at my current job for over 8 years, my 7 months of UNVERIFIABLE UNEMPLOYMENT from 9/17/2006 to 4/16/2007, could POSSIBLY be overlooked, (helping my 2 sisters care for our elderly mother before she passed away)
MVR may or may not be clean:
1 no fault accident back in August 2014, (never reported to the police), 1 no fault accident back in 2010, (was reported to the police), 1 no fault accident back in 1997, (hit and run, police did get license # of hit and run driver), 1 AT FAULT accident in October 1995, I was speeding and ran a red light, hit another motorist, (she did recover, THANK GOD)
Have not had any moving violations since 2007:
2007 and prior to, I have had 3 speeding tickets, 1 passing a school bus with red flashers on, 3 running red lights, and 1 failure to yield right of way.

The recruiter is slick talking you.I doubt if the recruiter will answer you, but ask about those long waits at meat packing plants or getting stuck in the Northeast for weeks just doing short runs. I know 2 drivers working there that went through their school and they both said the same things. Those fancy trucks blinded them to reality. Also, no trucking company lays off drivers except union companies. Other companies don't lay off because their turnover is high enough they don't have to. Some small non-union companies may occasionaly lay off drivers because of small budgets, but the larger companies don't have to.
Don't sell yourself short to any company. $40K is chump change these days. Henderson drivers make $50K - $55K their first year.

I know a guy at Jim Palmer Trucking and he's making a way lot more than $40K per year. They start you out at .40 cpm + .05 cpm bonus which = .45 cpm.
Henderson starts you out at .38 cpm with a guarantee of no less than $798.00 weekly.
Don Hummer Trucking pays .52 cpm which is milage+bonus.
Henderson has their own CDL school.
Hummer hires new CDL grads.

Nothing is wrong with Schneider but I wasn't getting the opportunity that I wanted so I'm just gonna go somewhere that's gonna give it to be. And they work with you a little more. I've been with Schneider almost a year and was trying to do there l /p but they keep telling me my over speed too high lol.
