Hey there. I can't say that I'm not surprised that after all of that you won't go. May the good Trucking Gods speed your path in the direction you wish to go in. Good luck and keep in touch.

There is no doubt to some of what you're saying there Chinatown my friend. But there remains a few things that CANNOT be said about some of us who had good/bad fortunes with Stevens Transport (I had bad of course). Now when I went, I wasn't "blinded" by the "cute" trucks as you say. Actually they were the only company remotely near me that would sponsor me to go to school as a rookie (I checked many others and refused to deal with CRE, CRST, or Swift). My truck was not "cute" in any way. It was a ####### bucket that they halfway fixed (I should have taken it through the safety lane a second time). You can see my first review here in the "Report A Bad Trucking Company Here" Forum. I in no way "lived off my wife's paychecks" like many of them. IF any thing I was sending her money home every chance I got cos I was one who chased after those miles. I also didn't depend on cash advances. Shoot. I hardly used them unless I had to pay the lumpers at my stops. Now remember this: Stevens Transport is a TRAINING company. Yes they pay way below average compared to quite a few I've seen around me. But they really could care less if you stay or not. I like many was on the fence of whether to advance in Stevens or leave after my year. I thought of being a trainer or going Tanker Division. Apparently none of it happened for reasons stated in my first review. Now that the ick is out of the way, lemme tell you where I support you.

The recruiters DO NOT tell the hopeful of Stevens employment everything. Yes they tout the they haven't had a layoff in I believe it's 28 years. They tell you that you have the opportunity to make $800-$1000 a week. That is total B/S obviously. That's just to raise your spirits to come and attempt to gain employment with them. I went to New York and got over $950 or the whole trip. After the got done taxing the #### out of me, I had a little under $600. I saved approximately $3500 through training and solo runs. They'll tell you that training is 5-6 weeks long when we all know it isn't. I was gone approximately nine and chose a solo run that lasted three. If you want me to delve deeper let me know. Just a few things I wanted to air out through your responses.

I've noticed you quite often recommend companies that hire new drivers in that persons area(if known) and usually quote their starting wage and type of equipment van. flatbed reefer, etc. That's a great service for someone just starting out. Perhaps if you included the companies training wage ( if known) that would also be an appreciated service to guys just getting into the business.

I started out with Stevens too. They do allow you to go home after school, before going out with a Trainer. Either then or another chance to go home after the five weeks with first trainer period.

Maybe your Husband just didnt tell you that?

Dont get me wrong, Stevens does rip their Drivers off with little pay and dont get me started on the Lease program scam.

But every five to six weeks, I was routed hone for time off without any trouble. They have a computer that starts to route a driver towards their home after five weeks out. Once you go past six weeks out, you're flagged red and have priority dispatch to get you home.

Let's all just be honest when dogging a company.

The driver can't change E-logs but the company can.
I've worked for some who would change your hours
And get you whatever you needed to deliver the load.
    And these big companies too.
