I recently got my CDL through stevens did the otr training and got my own truck, after doing a couple of loads and went on home time and learned that stevens have a minimum 28 day out on the road before home time, but I was looking for something more regional, dedicated, or local, but they couldn't give it to me so I quit. In the mist of me applying for local and regional jobs with only 2 months experience, I received a phone call from a lady saying I will not be able to use my cdl if I didn't pay stevens back for the training, I want to pay them back but she said it had to be paid back NOW. I owe 5k she said I needed to pay 2k down and then start a weekly payment plan or I cant use my cdl, something about me not being in compliance with the contract with stevens. What does this mean? Can I not get another Driving job?

Did you read your contract before signing. Or did you just sign away with out over looking it???
elamigowapo Thanks this. -
This question comes up a couple of times a week on here and not just with Stevens.
Best course of action is to come up with $2K and do a payment plan.
Use a credit card or whatever to get the $2K.
Of course, if another company hires you, consider that you lucked out.
You can use your cdl because it belongs to you, not Stevens. Stevens can't stop you from using it, but they can give you a bad reference for employment when other companies call to verify employment.
Tell other companies, if they ask, that you owe for the cdl school, but can't pay until you have a driving job.
Where are you in Texas?Edgarvanhorne, TST65 and Texastrucker27 Thank this. -
Your issuing state is the only one who can revoke or cancel your license.
Tell them thanks for the cdl and you'll pay them back in a timely fashion and to please stop calling.WeWantGreatness, BigHossVolvo, Elg1968 and 5 others Thank this. -
Yea no a company doesn't have the ability to take your license. Once you have it, it's yours, not the company. Only if you give it up or screw it up can you lose CDL son.
Next time, do your homework on these companies man. Don't just go here or there because of the shiny trucks and recruiter promises. Welcome to trucking...SOAthor, Texastrucker27 and Puppage Thank this. -
