A Texas driver posted a few months ago he hired on with Salem Carriers and the pay is accurate. He said he was on some account hauling windows and the driver shoves the boxes to the back of the trailer then the customer takes it from there.

Averitt is hiring, they just had a job fair. But this should be a lesson for you with Stevens. Make sure you read the fine print in a contract. The total cost for a cdl is $107-$130. When obtaining a cdl through a trucking company they will say. It's any where from 5-12k for there schooling.

This is how some of them force a driver to stay with them. It will be in the contract that if you leave before 12, 18, or maybe 24 months. That you have to pay them said amount. Most otr outfits that have cdl schools use new drivers as cheap labor. And will threaten one for leaving.

The best way is to get the cdl through a Technical school. Then you won't have a collection on your credit report.

So you used Stevens to get your CDL,knowing full
Well that you were going to quit as soon as you
    Got it.
You stole 5 grand from them.
There gonna get thier money back one way
Or another. If they have to ruin your credit and
Send it to a collection agency then so be it.

Elg1968, Maj. Jackhole and nightgunner Thank this.

There are two simple truths here. 1 is your CDL is yours to use whereever or however you like. 2 is you owe Stevens 5K and they want their money. Call the lady back and assure her that you intend to live up to the contract you signed. Make arrangements to pay them back under whatever terms are in the contract you signed. FYI the lady you spoke with may not be with Stevens but with a collections agency assigned to your case.

Yea, but make bread and you can settle for 1.5k or even less lol. I wouldn't recommend it, but... Ya know

Sounds to me like they included a non compete clause in the contract. If you flip burgers for a year or two your off the hook. Better reread that contract

^This. The only ones who can pull your CDL is the respective licensing bureau of your state and/or DOT(and you have to seriously screw up for them to do that). Stevens will try to f*** up your credit though so try to make payment arrangements to pay that balance off.

Non-compete clause in the contract! Ha, they don’t have monopoly power. The CDL is yours, you just owe them for the training. Always read the small print before you sign a contract!
