I've also been told you get more life with that wide rim. Something about squaring out the contact patch. They say it'll eliminate that edge wear

This bulletin from Michelin shows that if you are running 295/60 with 8.25" wheels you need to watch the weight on the axles. -
We run conti steers. On everything. With the 8.25 rim

The steer tires that originally came on my Pete were a 75 MPH tire at 130 psi and #14,600. After they had a serious of blowouts specifically on Pete carhaulers Michelin and Pete did a safety recall on some year trucks and certain age tires. My truck was built after the cut off for the recall. They were still rated at 75 but at a slightly lower wt rating. Instead of replacing tires they tried to turn people’s maximum speed down to 65 to run #14,600. Michelin changed the tire design and now it is back to 75 MPH for the redesigned tire. This tire wears the edge quicker than the original, but it seems to last slightly better overall. I researched going with Continental, but my tire shop talked me out of them.BigBob410 Thanks this.

Is this the kind of edge wear y'all were getting?
this was a fairly new set of steers we replaced for a different reason but that edge wear was bothering me. The set they replaced with these were not wearing like that same brand Michelin. They just put Conti's on here. I guess we'll see how they do if I don't get a new truck soon.
Intothesunset and Banker Thank this. -
I just passed you on 71BigBob410 Thanks this.

Yeah that was a problem with the michelins. The continentals wear around wear the sidewall and tread meet up . The older style contis had a more square profile from sidewall to tread. The newer ones taper in just a tad. And it wears thereBigBob410 Thanks this.
