And there be the train of though that has this industry screwed up!
If they haul cheap they are a cheap hauler!
The direction the freight goes in has nothing to do with the scenario! A discount may be in order if the first load paid well but not half price!
The shipper should be as happy as the trucker to be able to unload and reload the same truck as it's beneficial to both parties.
Stop calling it a back haul

And a a truck running for fuel money generates bills that a sitting truck doesn't.
I want a positive balance in my bank account but would take a zero over a negative anyday!

A broker calling the trucker greedy? Well if that ain't the teapot calling the kettle black! LMFAO!

Didn't read all the replies. Doesn't matter. This discussion has been around since the wagon trains. I'l call it whatever I want. Backhaul, backhaul, backhaul. There I did it. Doesn't matter what it's called all that matters it what you get paid and I get paid.
That's all for now. Gotta go order some OS permits for next weeks backhaul. $5.35/mile (incl $325 in permits) for 12' wide x 25,000 lbs.Foxcover, rollin coal and 281ric Thank this. -
There is no such thing as a backhaul only hauls. I will haul it from point a to point b for a price, where point a or b are is irrelevant.

There is a person I have talked to that pulls LTL Reefer out of Omaha. He uses the term backhaul (which I also hate the term) and I will say it does make sense for him to use this term. He has to be back in NE every Friday to pick up the load for the next week going east. I will say his rates back to Omaha are not very good most of the time but his rates going east out of NE are incredible. I think we will all agree though that by him and others doing this it does not help rates what so ever, but like I said I can see the term used by him making some sense. I still don't like it though....

Call it what you want, just make sure you get paid and paid well for the load that's all!
Simple logic states that your out bound load can easily be cut in half when a another carrier decides we can do it for half the price of your current carrier!
All freight can can be a back haul- so to prevent this rate cutting game charge accordingly, because one day you might be the carrier complaining about losing a contract to a carrier for half your rate.
no company is exempt it can and will happen to you! If you think not, your setting your self up to fail! -
I found out I lost a customer today I was down the road and havnt got any calls from them lately soon as I pulled in there's two trucks there from a local wrecker service, after talking for 15min I asked y'all been slow I havnt got any calls from y'all.....he said well your to high we get local loads moved at $270 and you charge us $400 sorry if you can match that we can get you some work......I said I can't cut my rates but if y'all get in a bind just give me a call and walked away I'm not doing it!!
