2013 freightliner dd13 truck is running and driving fine... but at idle it runs for 5 minutes then check engine light starts flashing, stop light comes on simultaneously. both flash a few seconds and truck shuts off happens right at 5 minutes.

Is it possible a sensor which kept it from doing that failed? Does it shut off out of gear with the brakes set? Is it your truck or a company truck?
-
Out of gear and brakes set only not while driving.
My truck -
If it's the same timing then it's definitely related. If you let it time out normally does it give the same lights on the dash?
-
How long have you had that tractor? Obviously if you had it for a long while you know something isn’t right.
My 21 Pete would shut down after 5 minutes of idle but I could turn the cruise on , bump it up and it would idle indefinitely.
My 23 Pete shuts down after 2 hours unless the outside temperature is 40 degrees or lower or 80 and higher. There’s no way to override it.
My point is maybe your truck has multiple parameters set for the shutdown? Not sure if it’s even possible but could explain why it acted differently last week… -
Been in the shop recently?
If you tap the throttle do the lights go out? -
You could go old school on that one. Find the thermometer or temp sensor on it. You want heat longer? Strap some ice to it you want a/c longer, I won't say mount a bic lighter on it. Lol how about a battery operated heat gun? Works for meConcorde Thanks this.
