Plugged into the J1939 or plugged into the RP(?) or whatever it’s called farther under the dash? I’ve ran 2 different ELD systems in 2 different trucks, never plugged any of them into the J1939, and I’ve had no issues like you describe.

09 t660 I think that truck model was.
Didn't like scangauge plugged in to the port.

I don't know how the eld box was tied in to the 18 579. But it was a headache. Till it got pulled. I didn't even know it had one. Came back to work after truck was in shop all week and it was sitting on the floor.

The scangauge was just causing the engine light to come on. And that truck didn't have the sophisticated electrics trucks these days have. The newer one likes to light up like a Xmas tree. When the box was plugged in.

Like amodelcat said. They work. Till they don't.

Peterbilt says not to split off the J1939 to hook anything up. I suspect that’s where your issues came from.

He does, as well as several other places we frequent (three railyards and 3 depot's), it's working properly for all my coworkers, but not for me. GEOTAB is kind of stumped too, as they can see all the settings and everything is correct. The only current possibility is due to a connectivity issue between our tablets and Verizon's network. All of us have connection issues at the one railyard, but it doesn't kick anyone out of any status.

I'm not the only one with issues.
    Or HAD issues.

I hear the stories everytime I visit the dealer. (KW)From different drivers.

I don't know who could run for .70. Megas might do it to get the truck out of of an area. Anyone who makes a habit out of it won't be around long.

Kenworth goes as far as warning that your warranty may be void if you do. Buy the dongle and plug into the whatchamacallit behind the fuse cover at your left foot and no problems.

ELD companies should be hung by the short and curlies for not making this clear to their users.

Yep, and without any knowledge of how they hooked up their eld it’s easy to blame the eld instead of saying if it was into the diagnostic port or down below where it should’ve been hooked up. I’d venture to say that many, especially ones who hook it up themselves, simply use the Y harness to split the 1939 plug because that’s the easy way and that’s the harness that comes with the ELD. You still haven’t said how yours was hooked up when you had problems.

My local Peterbilt shop told me that the guys who come in with it split off the 1939 that they end up getting under their dash and unhooking it from the Y harness just to be able to hook their laptop up. Most of the time their laptop doesn’t talk to the ecm if they simply hook it up to the other end of the Y harness.

It’s about $40 for the harness to do it correctly, the way that Paccar recommends. I feel like them telling people the correct way to do it to avoid problems means that taking the easy way to hook it up is likely to cause problems.
