I agree with above, your "mirror shake" is an underlying problem of a more serious issue. None of my pete 378 have that issue.
I would not advise anyone to do this mod. You basically disable the break away feature of the mirrors. Should you go thru a toll booth and get too close to one side, say good bye to your air filter canister and possible damage to your A pillar.
Stop the dreaded mirror shake

I wonder if a piece of rubber between the mounting brackets would help reduce that?
-
Aero mirrors however, are plain garbage.truckon Thanks this. -
All of our 388/389's with Cummins shake at idle, the Paccar engines don't. Once you rev it up a bit, they're OK, but they're blurry at idle when you're back up. They commonly break the mirror turn signal bracket off from the vibration. The Paccar engines run very smooth at idle though, no issues with those.

I recently talked to a guy in Paccar's engine development dept in Holland (original home of the Paccar engines).
He mentioned that North American spec MX13's idle at higher rpm than euro-spec engines, to prevent the mirrors from vibrating.
Not sure if this is true or if he was just joking.
I was on the road today doing some tests with euro6 MX13 in a DAF XF.
Engine idles at 550rpm. No vibrations at all. -
Tisk tisk tisk. A Peterbilt with mirrors that vibrate. Look at all the rust on that supposedly all aluminum Pete. Greatest truck ever made. So they say. Lying truck drivers.

Yes the sheet metal is all aluminum on the EXHD's I think. And what rust? I've never seen any yet. If you're talking about where the mirrors bolts to the aluminum doors, that's galvanic corrosion caused by two different metals touching each other (stainless mirror bracket and the aluminum door). They need to be isolated and then they will never rust. Same thing with the aluminum fuel tanks and stainless straps.

Our paccars idle at 650rpm

Rust is all over the Pete in the picture. Surprised the windshield is not leaking?
