That dispatcher in Johnny's song sure had a lot of jobs!

i knew a few of the drivers that drove those trucks the hagen driver had two of those double pete cab overs, and some of the little audry drivers, funny thing just cant remember there names any more. started out hauling meat to the west coast and produce back in the late 60s. its funny how time passes you by so fast. i really miss the old days of fast trucks and 5 day turnarounds to the west coast. i bought a brand new,. pete conv. back in 71 for 31 thousand and short change, you cant even buy a used pick up for that now. and if you told your boss you run legal you might not find job for awhile. b safe out there
taxihacker66 and Flyer Thank this. -
Did you have any weight limits or scale requirements then? Just curious.
-
-
73280 on weight on the interstate, and length was a big deal back then. that was one of the reasons i always run west out of iowa and nebr. had 290 inch wheel base on my pete, and 40 ft meat railer. those old time scale master were pretty good at spotting the distance from the front of trailer to the back of the cab. so i never run past chicago in 44 years of trucking. b safe out there

YEAH. there were scales and the gross weight was 73,280 not 80,000. Sadly I got to know the scale master at Jessup iowa during my meat hauling days. lol

almost forgot missouri was just horrible about length laws, but if you had drom plate behind the cab on the frame rail you were a truck and trailer and could be longer for some reason. you could not just put a piece of plywood back there and get away with it either. b safe
icepick Thanks this. -
Hi jbourque, sounds like you and I have similar exp. I had a w9 double bunk, 280 wb an a42 foot railer. Was leased to holiday express , but I always ran east coast with muli stop loads. didn't see too many hoods back then besides Rowley and Vitalis running east back then runnin east
