i've done this before for a few years while otr. worked great for me but my father lost all of his stuff the same way. one thing i learned from him that might help is pay in advance and keep the receipt of coarse, but do it in person. That lets the owner know there is no way they r going to be able to say you didnt pay your bill and sell your stuff. i still think its a great way to run for awhile keeping bills low and put away money for the next go round. I payed a year at a time, cut down the price also.

    hope it helps.

Wrong Wrong Wrong. Sell your stuff. Anything you have in storage is something you don't need. If you are using it once a week, you don't need it. Why pay rent to store junk?

Now you ask me why I am so negative. I have 2 ex wives and they took everything.

If you do this, remember that their insurance may not cover your stuff if it is not inventoried.

I rent a storage for motorcycle while I'm gone, $60 a month is the premium I'll pay to make sure no one rides it. Books and clothes can definitely be left in someone's closet or garage, save your $40.

I have things in storeage units.. Plus I have insurance on them.
The places have fenced in lot. You need a pin code to get into the lots, plus they have security cameras there as well

Had my stuff in a fenced in lot, pin coded gates, cameras, and people living on the property. Didn't keep thieves from cutting the back fence, knocking the cameras out of alignment, and hitting 20 or 30 units, including mine.

What you can do, and what I did for just moving, is fill a box with books where the spine shows, and take a pic of all of them, then add another row and repeat. Will work for dvd's too. Clothes I would not bother with, but I would write down the model/serial of all electronics as that should not be too much work.
