I have 8' straight pipes and its not loud like some ppl think. My engine is Cat C-15. It sounds deep and i love it. I think i gained some mpg as well after I took my stock stacks with mufflers off. Jake brake barks really loud though. Just use common sense and don't use jake when u r coming up to small towns or truck stops, rest areas where other drivers r resting. Also it depends on the engine, for example Detroit is usually louder and I would get free flow muffler if i had one. I know law requires a muffler but again its because of dumb heads who don't know what common sense is. I run everywhere except Cali and i had 6 DOT inspections with straight pipes... Never been ticketed for it so far... Knock on a wood

All my mufflers get cut in half with the plasma cutter, gutted and welded back together. Sounds nice and deep on the power. Not annoying at all on the jake. If I want go get someones undivided attention they get the train horn.

I have straight pipes with a single resonator. Sounds real nice going through the gears but its quiet in the cab running down the road. Resonator takes that droan sound out of it.
The Jake's are ridiculously loud on mine. Just need to know when and where to use them. It's not hard.KenworthGuyNH and Streamer Thank this. -
Would I give up the benefits of using a Jake when it's really needed, to have loud pipes? Nope, been there, done that, and got the hearing aids to prove it (they really suck, thanks to all those 2 cycle screaming Detroits). You want a big bark, get a dog! Do I like to hear a nicely tuned exhaust, sure do, just not on my truck.
