    Clean it with acetone and smear a dab of Ultra Grey RTV, that'll hold the rust at bay.

    That's what I do when I get a chip on a chrome bumper or anything for that matter. I normally do this on a painted steel surface to protect it from rusting until it gets repaired. I have these little temporary silicone band aids on my Jeep CJ for 20 to 30 years and still not rusting AND, this jeep drives on the beach. Got them here and there on the Pete too.

    The ultra gray will withstand the exhaust heat.
