I see, I never thought about that. The flapping would be annoying. But they sure looked cool wide open going down the interstate.
windsmith Thanks this. -
Yeah they are def cool and they worked for the exact reason we were talking about before, keeping water out. I took mine off when I went to six inch pipes and removed the muffler

hmm.. six inch rain caps would look cool too - like dinner plates. Maybe put chicken lights on 'em.camaro68 Thanks this. -

fatter pipes only slows down the exhaust gases. Not desirable. The gas slows down and cools before it has a chance to exit the pipe.
Plenty of opinions on exhaust scavenging theory on the internets.
A single 5" straight pipe is all that is needed for a 15 l engine.
Besides those fat pipes resonate halfway across the dang lot aaaalll niiiiight loooong!
Ooops- on subject, I put cut in half milk jugs over my pipes when I'm home and it might rain.camaro68 Thanks this. -
I always loved those clackers growing up on a farm it was always a treat

used to bolt steel buckets to broom handles to put over pipes before it rained. It's not so much about the rain causing rust, it was more because when you get a couple inches of water down there it makes a black soupy mess which will spray all over your cab or trailer when you fire it up.
