Unless the noise is what you are looking for, just get a Donaldson or Walker high flow muffler and get the same exhaust flow as straight pipes.

I know about VA. Even backing out of it to be quiet, those troopers around Abingdon like to write that $60 ticket.
So what do you just say "I have inserts, officer" and they take your word for it? Or do they poke a long wire down your pipes to check? -
Ear plugs if it gets to be to much. Lol. You know who has straight pipes at the dinner table at the truck stops. They keep saying what when you talk to them. Lol

I can tell you first hand that va does care about out of state trucks I got a ticket for straight pipes there in 2000 ticket was 60 dollars that's why you put a muffler underneath and gut it out then your legal

I just brought another truck for a driver of mine this past week. It's a clean 07 pete, 550hp cat, with only 567,977 miles on it. It's not growling how my driver n I would like. Im thinking 8" straights, but what are some other things i can do to make it extremely loud?
-
Quality 8" pipes are about $3000.00 USD. If "sound" is all your looking for and not looks then just replace the muffler with a piece of straight pipe, and put the muffler guard back on.The compound turbo's are going to make it a little quieter than a single turbo motor on straights. Donaldson makes a "high flow"muffler that is pretty loud part # M100463, Walkers "Mega Flow" is even louder but I can't find the part # now. But if you want the loudest truck in the truckstop, get rid of the compound turbo's and put a big ole' Holeset on there, have Mr.Haney give you a Stage 1 with a little extra timing and run it all thru 5" pipes, everyone in the county will know your there.

Haha... I really appreciate the helpful feedback n various options Thatz available , thanks alot bubbanbrenda. I had an 03 n I notice immediately the two sound completely different. To each it's own, but my driver n I personally prefer my truck to sound like a truck not a minivan. I originally said 8's because of the Deep bass that they put off n are loud as well. you think 5" would be better?
-
5" straight pipes will drive you insane. I would not recommend that

The smaller the pipe, the more 'cackle' you'll have. But I digress...I went from 6" to 7" with the Pickett elbows and was a little disappointed. I recently put on the smallest straight-thru resonator Iowa80 offers and it did quiet it down some...took away a lot of the 'bark' but left the rumble...if that makes sense....but the jake is still LOOOOOUUUUUDDDDDDD. Sometimes I wonder if there isn't something wrong with it. lol
-
"Better" is an opinion the smaller the pipes, the more obnoxious the "crack" of the pipes will be, especially when the jake is on.
