No resonator, at least I wouldn't. They have I believe a 30 inch muffler available, thats the route Im going But gutted out or stick a 5" pipe through it and weld the ends. If you go gutless, wrap some header tape around it. Some inspectors are head of the game and sometimes tap the muffler to hear the tone of it being hollow. The header tape will prevent that and if they ask why the header tape, say its for insulation to keep the heat away from ther transmission.
straight pipes?

yes i have many straight piped trucks and driven a few believe it or some of us love the sound of straights
-
wow thanx man i never heard that trick before
-
with the pipe through the muffler what u just cut the tips of the muffler off then stick the 5 inch pipe through it...sounds a lot easier then gutting it any peticular reason to go with one or the other?
-
Don't cut the end's, thats where you slip the other ends in. The piece of pipe you put thru it has to be only long as the body of the muffler, and just tack weld it to keep it from moving if it's not a snug fit.

Just a thought... 'looks' have nothing to do with violating noise ordinances and the fines associated with those violations will ultimately balance budgets in cities where they will be 'greeting' you with your generous wallet.
I agree too... if you come rumbling passed my place at oh dark thirty, I'll be personally putting your rig out of service so, drive through PA during the daylight hours
... fix that !!!

I would be careful with this for a couple of reasons. A number of jurisdictions have noise ordinances prohibiting the use of jake brakes in them and a cop will not care if its straight pipes or jakes braking the "sound barrier". It's all about the decibel level and some have portable meters to check. You can see the meters at any bike rally in NH like Laconia. This was aimed at hotrods with straights and Harley's but applies to any loud vehicle which is just a source of easy revenue.
You also might run afoul of emission regulations regarding particulate matter without a muffler.
Other than that I agree that you probably will not be that popular cruising through towns or rolling around a truckstop at 0200 trying to find a spot. you might want to rethink this. -
Shes a wannabe who thinks she knows it all already..sheesh..ignore that garbage. It has no bearing on your orginal post, nor does it make sense.hhmag70, MackDaddyMark and 379exhd Thank this.

The guy wants straights because he likes the looks and you attack him. Nice...379exhd Thanks this.

When you get to be my age, 60, you have a constant ringing in your ears
, have trouble hearing, and your ear specialist doctor says it is because you were around loud, constant noise all your life
, you will think a little differently about how 'cool' a loud exhaust is to be driving.I still love the sound of a set of loud pipes, be it on a Harley
, Pete, farm tractor, NASCAR,funny car, whatever. But I do wish I could hear better now:smt022.
