Get a full on DOT insp in Colorado and you will have a problem. No Muffler is $500 fine+local jurisdiction surcharge. Typically total of about $700. I have 6" straights on my truck and a "muffler" underneath. I have been checked several times. I got a ticket in my old A model right after they passed the muffler law. I got it dismissed when I went to court and showed that a muffler had been installed on the truck. California has had a muffler law for many years, I don't know how hard they enforce it.

Just to fuel the fire....... In Deleware its 100% legal to have straights ..... but its illegal to use "jakes" anywhere but interstate.... I say to each there own.... who am I to tell you what to do with your truck.... If staight pipes were the only or biggest problem with the publics veiw of us...... well lets just say theres a lot of things that need fixin...I myself have pipes with muffler underneth and pipes with mufflers in them... How about this angle?

If you have to ask if it's a DIY project, it probably is not (for you).
