Guys,
I found an o/o willing to employ me. That is the good news. Now where he can he lease onto with me having limited experience?? The truck is an 05' 670 Volvo or Intl 9400I. He is looking at getting his own authority to pull reefer as second alternative.

I think that KH has found a potential employer, but the employer doesn't have an employer yet either?
It seems, that KH is caught in the lack of experience trap. The Challenger Thanks this. -
I need to find a carrier or someone that will let my employer lease to them. My employer wants to do reefer but can do dry van provided the freight is there. He is also in the process of getting his own authority as well. Can we change the title of this thread to something more appropriate please. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

If your employer is already in the process of getting his own authority, it sounds like "his" dilemma is already solved. I can't imagine going through that process only to put the authority on the shelf and lease on to another carrier. I understand your position of maybe trying to do some legwork.
I suppose a better question for you is: how confident and comfortable are you that your new employer is able to pull off either? Knowing what I just went through to get our authority and one truck on the road tells me it will be a long time before I even think about adding another one - especially with a hired driver fresh out of school. I'm sure there's more to your story. Maybe you are long time friends or done business before. Hearing the indecision about finding a lease or starting a new authority is sort of a warning flag, looking in from the outside. Sort of suggests that not a lot of planning has taken place.
I'm not knocking either your talent or your new boss's business acumen. Just encouraging you to not get too wrapped up in the upsides and seriously look out for #1 (you) on the risks. An o/o adding a truck and hired driver is risky, just don't forget poop rolls down hill. If things don't work out for him, you'll certainly be the first to know (under or un-employed). If you're a single guy without a lot of personal risk it can be a great start for you without too much downside. On the other hand, if you have a family to support you might want to consider this carefully and plan for the worst, even if your new boss seems to have his stuff together. The Challenger Thanks this. -
How much experience do you have? Most carriers require at least 6 months to 1 year otr driving experience. If you are fresh out of school then it will be difficult for him to lease to most carriers.
If he is getting his own authority, it could be difficult for him to get insurance to cover you without any experience. Progressive is about the only game in town when it comes to insuring inexperienced drivers. I don't understand why he would want to lease to a carrier if he is getting his own authority. Most carriers will not want someone to lease to them with active authority. The Challenger Thanks this. -
I have six months verifiable experience.

With 6 months experience you can lease to JRC Transportation and pull a van, flat or stepdeck.

Just got off the phone with them Mark. All I need is to find an O/O willing lease a truck on to them.

Try Walbon & Co. They have a terminal over off 75 in Central FL. (Wildwood).
