If there isn't an Indian hiding under the bunk than I would say a coolant leak. Another possibility with the changes in weather by chance have you been running the AC in the bunk area the past couple weeks? Clogged condensate drain, wet and moldy then turn the heat on will produce rank smells. There should be a drain tube back there and it could be clogged.

It's been a rare thing to run A/C in the past few months.
I've run it to clear fogged windows, but not much more.

Still, the smell returns after just a few seconds of turning up the temp. I goes away just as quickly after turning it down.

LOL OMG, its your Bunk Heater core, it has a pinhole leak and thats what you smell, mine had the same smell i thought maybe there was a dead paki wedged in there somewhere, lol it should be warrenty, that smell does make you feel sick so get that heater core replaced before your off warranty

I'll get in in to the shop and get it checked.

I've been in the shop much too much in the past month for little pidly problems.
Oh well, another go at getting my most reliable truck back in shape.

It's a company truck, but still under warranty.
