Muleskinner, ya gotta be careful with that kind of advice! A noob has enough trouble keeping his head outta his rear. Adding lubrication and numbness down there just about guarantees a Cranial Rectal Inversion!

    Muleskinner Thanks this.

I had to sweep out my reefer with a whisk broom, I bought a fifty foot air hose at the truck stop, coupled to the twenty foot hose I already had, I can push the hose down the left front drain hole, couple it to the glad hand, and blow out my reefer in a few minutes.

I never thought of that! The trailers I get have air lines on the back for hooking up to doubles and Im going to have to find a cheapy air hose to clean the trailers out. Its not my job to do that, but it doesnt seem like anyone else does it, so I might as well.

I posted this somewhere a while back, but no idea where:

Chains. We all love 'em. Especially the part where we have to sort them out for the first time in 23 months and all we have is this wad of links. By the time it's sorted out, you're already past your delivery appointment, and you still have the other side to do.

It's a little bulky, but it works:

Next time you are in wally world or home despot, grab a couple of those runners - the long, narrow carpets. Lay out ONE chain on the carpet. Leave about 6 inches on either side of the chain, and cut the rest away. Roll it up and tie it - I use a small set of ratchet straps for each one.

When it comes time to chain up, undo the straps, unroll the carpet, and ka-zing, there's your chain - ready to go.

When you take the chain off the truck, you just drive off the chain, then slide it directly over onto the carpet, roll it up, and put it away - ready for the next snowpack (probably 3 miles down the road).

It takes a little longer to put them away, but it saves a LOT of time putting them on.

I got a better one than that. When you come to the point where you need to put your chains on....go to bed.:biggrin_25512: Someone posted on another thread " I keep my snow chains and pajamas in the same box. When it comes time to chain up, I just put on whatever one's easier." Now there's some words of wisdom.

I hear ya there. Personally, I try to stop long before the need to even think about chains. I've sued them twice, once on Donner and once on the Sis-q's. Both times was a total PITA, and completely not worth it considering the time involved and how slow you have to go because of the chains/road conditions. I'd have been much better off to park and wait for the roads to clear out.
