This morning I pulled into a Wal Mart (on Vista Dr in Oceanside, CA) just to run in and buy a couple things. I was in the sleeper cab, bobtailing with no trailer. The parking lot was huge, I parked in a corner with a ton of empty spaces. There were a couple RVs, but no other trucks. There were no signs about truck parking.
I was in there for maybe 20 minutes and shortly after I got back to the truck, this huge tow truck (wrecker) came by and parked a couple rows away from me. I looked over but just kept eating, filled out my logs, etc. He went away for about 10-15 minutes but then came back to the same spot. Then I left.
What do you guys think? Was it a coincidence that he was there? Or did someone call on me, and I got lucky by getting out on time and then staying with the truck?

I have a sign that says "Inside grocery shopping. Will be back asap". Always leave it on driver's door window. Hopefully will keep me from trouble. Who knows? It's open season on drivers all year long, it seems

Ya, I've actually done that before, and included my phone # on it. I should do it again.

Heck, he could have been taking his lunch too. Or 30, or whatever.

No harm, no foul. Not worth worrying about.

I check heavy recovery locations first. Then choose carefully targeted store choices deliberately more than 35 minutes driving time from these Wrecker yards.

I used to do my parking where I'll be back and gone before any wrecker big enough to matter gets there.

Sometimes I'll park legally with other trucks a mile, and walk it there and back.

Well that Walmart is run by a bunch of pricks, could be either.

A lot of wreckers park along the 78 though because it's quick to either interstate

I would say it was a coincidence. Especially since you were there for 20 min in the store. It would take that long for the manager to call the wrecker and the wrecker to get there (probably 45 min). I have a house in San Marcos and very familiar with that area. I-5 very busy with truck traffic. That's a good place for him to park and stand by.
