Yep me either. Leave mine on trailer full time and never had a problem losing straps even when truck sits unattended for days on end.

    JonJon78 Thanks this.

I roll 8-14 straps 2-3 times a day. Got nothing else to do while getting unloaded. It’s really not that bad

I prefer to hand wind. The way I throw straps I put my fingers in the middle and grenade throw, and these mechanical winders wrap the middle too tight. One of these days I'll make my own that leaves a 2 1/2" or so whole in the middle. Not that big of a deal anymore since my son has taken over the flatbed work.

Is it jus boredom or what? I mean if no one is gonna steel the straps why do people even bother? I don’t understand this habit.

For those that drop and hook trailers it’s probably the only way enough straps get transferred to the next guy. The winch will rust out prematurely from not getting cleaned off and dryed out. My insurance company will not cover an injury from getting hit with a strap hook. Every time the hook hits something it takes some paint or leaves a dinger on something. Not to mention the light that gets smashed by the hook. Not if it’s when.

Come on now, you know that you use that extra strength to manhandle your personal gear shift lever.

Always took my straps off. Used a winder. Put them away. Never threw the hook end. Did have one guy almost hit me with a hook when I was loading next to him.

Have a real problem with people that sling the hooks.
Have had several close calls on that.

How? In 5 years Ive never been surprised by hook flying over a load. I also don't throw straps when other people are around my trailer.

cke and IH Truck Guy Thank this.
