Straps, Inside or Outside the tarp?

They both are correct in my opinion but I've never worked at a company that dictated how it had to be done.
in there defense there way will ensure strap protection

 

its ok either way, however you will encounter some tarp damge along the way with straps over the top. however if they are paying the bills, do like they say its their money

 

My experience it depends what u hauling and load height n placement. If its a medium high load going into a low pallet single for weight distribution it wont work the load is gotta be all even all doubled same height then yes It makes tarping very easy to secure with straps on top u will definetly rip up the tarp if they only let u strap outside of it.

 

I usually use the straps on the outside when Im using them to help secure the tarp. Especially where they meet. Some loads dont play well with bungies.

 

I put mine under the tarp. Exception is if I have a load that is for example tall in the front and drops down sharply i'll put a strap over it to square the tarp where it drops down. Seems to work well.

Theres no DOT mandate and thank god for that. There are several reasons and times to put straps on the outside of tarps. I have a load right now that the straps are on the outside, why? Its pallatized supersacks. The supersacks are extra squishy especially when tightening a strap on them. So for me, I have found on a load like this its better on the outside. On an irregular load (not all square and boxy) you will need a few straps on the outside to help keep tarps taught.

 

I put mine both over and under. Depends entirely on the load and what I decide will work best. That won't ever change.

 

I personally like the straps under the tarp. Looks alot better and with using edge protectors no strap damage. However some shipper 'pretarp' the load (drywall comes to mind) which forces them to be outside the tarp. But as others had said, the odd shaped loads usually require a couple on the outside to hold the tarp down.
