Been running some plate steel here lately and have seen guys running straps on their loads. How many of you do this??
I'm thinking 4 straps per stack (with edge guards of course) and then just a 5/16 header chain to keep it from coming into the cab. Seems like I could get more hold with a strap as well since the chain seems to just slide on the oily steel.
What ya guys think???
Straps or chains on plate steel???

Chains or California truck rope.
Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -
You can't get the down force using straps that you can get with chains. Plus IMO it's a lot easier to toss a chain and throw a binder on it than to throw a strap, make it look nice and pretty, and secure the excess strap.
But then again there is more than one way to skin a cat without getting fur in your mouth.Mommas_money_maker Thanks this. -
Depends.
Regular plate steel I'll chain but diamond plate or other 'packaged' plate I'll strap.MNdriver Thanks this. -
I like to use chains too, I'll cross them in the front of the plate and back up over top.

I have used both, but prefer chains. I think that chains do a better job of getting a "bite" on the steel. And you don't want to put a strap on the front of steel.
