All good advise. I've done said those exact things over and over to myself but One thing that I keep going over and over is how hard I work and how long my days are just to barely stay a little ahead. Literally I work 15-18 hours a day every day. I wake up in the mornings at 6-630 and jump in the seat and go and stop at 10-12pm. (of coarse there is usually a deliver and reload in there) and I do my best to get two days off a week but that is often cut down to maybe a night at the house on my way through. As bad as I want to continue I think I done talked myself out of this venture at least for the time being.
I just renewed my tags today. I was suppose to wait for my authority to kick in and transfer all of it over at time of renewal.
Then again, knowing me, I'm liable to wake up Monday and go back to the highway dept and transfer my IRP right on over. After all I done paid $3000 on Insurance. If I cancel it I'm sure I will be penalized.
I really don't know what I'm going to do. But thanks for all the support and encouragement!

What about still just running for the company you were leased to for the 10%? That's what I do even though I have my own authority just cause it's easier for all the reasons you stated. I was leased to them before(they took more than 10% then), but their freight is good and I don't have to talk to brokers. That alone is worth 10% in the case of some brokers. If you are a good hand for them, I'm sure they would work with you so you could get some stress free time under your new mc number.

And not waiting on your money......

if it was easy everyone would do it....Now I look back on how I started I'm not sure how I survived at the time, I didn't know there was web sites like this you could read and lern almost everything you need to know. I just started using load boards about three years ago even today broker loads are only 32% of what I do I go months without pulling broker loads.

Sounds like you need to do more homework most people only get one shot at this you sink or swim.

My company I'm leased to now don't have freight or any customers, they don't even own a truck, they basically are just a back office company for an O/O. I would recommend them to anyone over leasing own to someone who is offering to pull their trailer for 25% and not having much say so in where your going.

I use the load boards 100% to get my loads and do good 90% of the time. That is why I got my authority but keep running over the issues in my head stated above. I won't be able to just have a rate sheet sent over and run, With my own authority I have to fill out packets, bill each broker, or send to a Factoring company, do IFTA, keep track if I've been paid by this broker or that broker, figure out where this money came from in my account and what load it's from, ect.

With me working as much as I do just get my load from point A to B I can potentially see me loosing a load or running late. But then I can see me maybe finding a driver and growing.

I'm sure in time I will get it down and time will pass and I will be able to work with any broker but my expenses are high and in a few months I could go under if I'm not real careful. Hell, I could go under in a few month where I'm at if I'm not careful.
    Just saying...

Yeah, it's tough. I've had huge maintenance issues this fall that have tried to put me under. If you can get going I'm sure you'll be fine. Provide good, no, outstanding service and you'll have work. I don't regret getting my authority at all. There is more responsibility, but you aren't beholden or tied to anyone. Best of luck!

Fuel keeps everybodies net low. Combined with low rates.

I think the hardest thing for anyone running under their own authority and doing all the work is pacing yourself. Don't let the stress of chasing truck payments and whatnot keep you running 24x7. Sometimes you'll be farther ahead by shutting down a day and catching up. Or a week. You won't go bankrupt if you miss one load, and there will be 10 more where that one came from when you're ready to go.

You'll eventually get to the point where you have a very short list of go-to customers that will keep you loaded consistently at good rates. You'll also get better at working the load boards, versus being worked by the load boards.

I can see where you're coming from. It will get better and easier, just not tomorrow. What I've seen in your posts and on your blog is that you seem to have the hustle it takes to make it work.

I do the same thing, fill out packets for the different brokers.. then ask if they have a loadboard, sometimes you can find a load on "their" board and not have to fill out the whole packet, just a rate confirmation. NASTC is a good deal, We have our safety program through them, and use their connection for fuel. As for the paperwork, I try to stay caught up when I do my restart, I use truckers helper, I can use the Iphone app to input receipts, but it is much easier to put everything in on a computer, then my accountant gets my annual P&L to do my taxes. As said earlier PACE yourself.....if I can keep the week I am on up to date, then I am happy

Orange Commercial Credit through NASTC, if you belong to NASTC they give you a discounted rate, and access to Ansonia, their credit scoring system.
