You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make a fool into a successful business owner.

I should introduce you to the idea of opportunity cost.... if you are committed to hauling freight that pays near zero then you are not available to haul pay that pays a reasonable profit. Time has value and clearly you do not value your time.

Sometimes nothing is better than something -

You could be delayed loading or unloading - causing you to miss a load that pays 5 times as much.

You could have an accident or mechanical issue that is complicated by the load you are moving

You could have a cargo claim or a load shift (even through no fault of your own)

Anyone of these will wipe all the cost covering or “fuel” money freight you haul in a year.

But as a smug genius, you can continue to tell people who are successful how to operate.

Nobody likes to haul for $1/mile and the last time I did was 2 years ago out of FL. I generally don’t go to those areas, and when someone is asking for a quote my rate is $4-5/mile to go in. All I care is my average for the trip which is generally over $3/mile for all miles. This week it’s $3.30/mile. If I do longer trips it could be $2.80. Of course per mile rate is only secondary consideration after gross per day, per trip, etc.
Whether you refuse $1/mile the rate won’t go up. All what matter is how many trucks are in that area and how many loads for that particular day.
I agree taking that $1/mile for 900 miles is dumb, simply because it takes 2 days to drive, and going 900 miles empty is even worse because you just wasted 2 days for $0. They’d have to pay me $5/mile going in which isn’t gonna happen

What about the risk involved in that $1 mile load? Heaven forbid you fall off it and get hurt... or the fork truck driver runs his forks through the front of your trailer? Or they file a freight claim on that cheap ### freight? These are the cheap ##### where this crap happens!

The risk scares me more than paying the fuel out of my pocket to get closer to destination. Mostly I can get something for the same or more gross $ and pick it up 1/2 back to the house.

That being said I’m not saying I’ve never hauled $1 mile freight but, less and less as I go. Maybe 3 loads this year?

No posted pics of miss doyle only that guy? smh. In all seriousness I thought about joining them and even went and met with them. Small office and didn't see these ladies, however they said they had other locations. I spoke with one driver while there who said he was doing well, but I had a better offer. Are there any other drivers who currently run there???

So you pull a load for $3.50/mile to a dead zone (can't be too hot for $3.50/mile) and delivered it Monday. Cheap freight all around. You see a $3/mile load 1000 miles away (how many miles is this load going? 200 miles? Let's say 1500 miles). Receiver is open Monday-Thursday. So, you decide to beancount and look for a load that pays for your fuel. You find one that picks up Tuesday, 44000lbs tarp load.

You should already see where this is going. If you grab that cheap load, you will drop the $3/mile load on Monday. If you bounce, you can load that $3 mile load possibly noon on Tuesday and deliver Thursday afternoon. Grab a weekend load on Friday and work in a restart and be ready to go full tilt the following Monday.

See, this is the thing that beancounters never factor in....TIME. You're looking at mileage. I am looking at time. Time is more important. Cheap freight does not pay for the TIME it has your truck tied up. We have the same week, the same hours of the day, same HOS rules to play by. But if you grab that cheap load, which you will not profit from at all, I will deliver the profitable load 4 days ahead of you AND potentially have another in the books during the same time period.

Just curious you created your account in July 2018 and your defending this outfit.

Why is it your not active anymore after the look into this company you talk about?

I would of assumed you would of been more active since you work for this outfit? Are they closed now?

    Asking for a friend

Does the high end call girl drop her rates just because she sees a streetwalker standing outside the 5 star hotel?
