Nothing wrong with the Browning/tram antennas on many trucks out here you can put one on sink the stinger all the way down and get a flat match with little effort.....not a thing wrong with a flat match either !!!!!!!

But a flat match doesnt mean its the best match..Resonance can be off a good bit...As you know swr is pretty much all about maken radio happy, doesnt have much to do with best radiation of your signal...
When i had my 10k on back of the cab,it had a great swr but wouldnt send or rec wortha crap..All cause there was to much signal block and little to no ground plane.. -

Putting a antenna on the back of a cab ???? IM THINKING NO NEVER NOT HAPPENING WITH ME....EVER . WHEN I TALK LONG DISTANCES MEANING 20 PLUS MILES OR MORE ITS LIKE TALKING TO SOMEONE SITTING OR STANDING IN FRONT OF ME... NOT A BUNCH OF NOISE AND GARBLED CRAP... ITS LOUD AND CLEAR ON BOTH ENDS OF THE CONVERSATION
-
Noo you missed my point...Point was i had great swr but range was crap..Resonance was off to..THATS the point..A flat match dont mean much..A flat match doesnt mean all the power is gettin out..

The only real advantage of a big coil ant over a fibreglass ant is a wider bandwith and power it can with stand..Range diff is minimal.. -
To be honest a few have done tests and only got 1/2 an s unit(3 db with is barely audible by human ear)difference in a 102 vs a 10k..

You read too much I'm not hung up on how low my swrs are but running a 1600 watt linear I do need them at a 1:3 or lower all linear builders will tell you that... when I kick that puppy on my swrs will definitely rise higher than that....on a crapcadia you want the coil above the roofline and you don't want to see it....reflection or blockage is never going to work in your favor.... like the antenna being mounted behind the cab of a truck !!!!! Just show me the re-worked pole mount or I hunt you down and I kill you. LOL

Haven it behind the can was a few yrs ago..Before i knew as much as i do now, which is not alot..lol..Ill share my findings here for sure..
As for your amp, with a 400 watt radio now why waste more on a sweet 16 that will give you approx 800 watts talk vs 400 you have now..Are you really gonna gain that much if your only doin 12-15 mi now?? -
Warmed up today..Elbow deep in gettin the dash apart on my hemi for either a 955 or hpc2 install..Gonna wire up for both,so i can change up iffin i wanna do side band chatter to..
-
It's not a sweet 16 it's a class A/B AND C AMP. TEXAS STAR THE BIG 955 IS NOT FOR running the amp/linear can't b done won't/ doesn't work that way... I'll get a big tall bracket probably use a galaxy hp2 3300 to use with the A/B SIDE of the Texas star....800 watts SUPPOSEDLY RMS WATTS DOUBLE THAT BIRD SUPPOSEDLY... THATS WHERE THEY COME UP with the DX 1600. LOOK IT UP JOKERMAN HAS THEM... IM NOT BUYING IT FROM HIM THOUGH.....
