they are no different from anything else. Magnum, Stryker, Galaxy, Connex....they are all about the same these days as far as audio quality and receive performance and share the same board design with the only difference being small parts used. if it were me, i would just get a Connex 3300 HP for under $200 (H&Y Electronics ) and ride on down the highway. nothing wrong with a Stryker, i have a SR-447HPC and its ok but i have had better costing much less.

No sir that is very incorrect!!!!! Stryker is not like any other radio out there. You must have never open the case to make that comment. I have had ranger, galaxy, cobra and the list goes on. But I only run a strker 497 and got a 655 as a backup. The shielding, the connex board, the AMC, finals are not the same as any other 10 meter radio. the owners of Stryker use to work for Ranger/Galaxy. I can go on and on but don't let any one talk you into getting connex there nothing but a galaxy 33 which is nothing special. :biggrin_25510:

I have a SR655hpc. They are made simplistically. Simple usually is better. It has very small modern resistors. I talk alot with my escorts and it never runs hot. Not even warm. Have stock 14 guage power cables.

With nothing more than a peak and tune from a good shop, I dead key 30 and easily talk at 80-100w with the power dialed at 5/8 on the knob. The thing I like most is the constant swr meter. It seems to have a clearer and bigger sound. I have had a few comments from friends about how commanding it sounds.

When you say stock 14 guage power cables, does that mean you have them running off your battery's if so do you have too.?

No you don't have to run them off the battery. You can use the cb jack and be just fine. Been using one for over a year and no problems

I also use a SR497 the circuit boards are almost twice the thickness of all other CB radio's , these were originally designed for the military and the rough off road ride of military vehicles needed a more durable circuit board , and Stryker was designed with this in mind. I'm a vet , USMC and was in Communication while active military , I run barefoot with a monkey made and a external swr meter to be sure my impedance and swr's are as good as it gets.
I've talked to the Diesel doctor Effingham IL on 33 from AZ , Colarado , and "FL as recently as a 2 weeks ago". I've talked to a neighbor from near Portmouth OH in KY , as I was running in NM around Tucumcari at like 5 P.M. when interference would be at a peek.
I've spoken at 10pm to another guy from a mile of my home 26 miles away as I was southbound us23 near Lucasville OH , anyone familiar with the area knows it's nothing but rollin hills between Lucasville OH and Vanceburg KY "the Ohio river valley", "foothills" . He told me I was hitting him with like 7 lbs , and said be proud of that thing.
Great radio , for those who want more than traffic and bear reports from someone within 5 miles of them. Never do I get a complaint, and it's a rarity someone has to ask me to repeat myself , I've been told the clarity is like having me sitting next to them.
