I realize this is an old topic. But my Galaxy just died on me. And I have heard mixed reviews from Stryker owners. Your review has made up my mind. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this radio. I'll pick one up this weekend.

Dont listen to those guys. I've been in this game since I was 10 years old. I'm a licensed radio operator and radios is mu passion.
To start out this is very controversial.
Which is best.... What's best is always is what's best for you and your usage.
To began it just depends on your use to find out what radio fits your application.
Pretty much all big radios cobra 29 or higher is build to be durable.
Cobra 29 is by durable it's made cheaply.
People aware by Styker to be durable yet the new board designs are fairly new so time will really tell how they eventually hold up over time.
The styker radios put out very compressed audio and narrow waves. Very clean on a scope. In my opinion they are build using high quality parts and very over engineered.
If your looking for a Quaility and something that sounds good... go with the styker. Doesnt drift and doesnt splatter. Ask fine tune CB radio...
He promotes clean radios.
If your looking for power styker is a good choice.... 90 watts pep
You will get great range from 6-8 miles with that 90 watts.
With a amp.... yeah.... your gonna sound like trash and look like trash on a scope.
Stryker radios are horrible choice to use with a amp.
Bbi in Idaho uses it and hes may build amps... but he doesnt have a scope. He said it best....
"GUYS..... I DONT FIX RADIOS"
He doesnt even talk on cb.
You want to throw the wave and get down?????
Then get a Connex or galaxy or ranger.
They pair very very well with amps cause the radios has a better chance to wideband.... splatter is a nasty word to give it a bad name.
Distortion only comes from being to high or to low on power.
Amps cant be pushed with a weak signal
And amps dont like to be driven with a high signal.... so yeah there has to be a balance.
1/4 power.....
Too much swing is bad
Too much drive is bad
If you want to key down and drown the channels and shows who's boss and who's got the hammer...... then get a Galaxy 98 4 pill inside and push about 250 watts into your 4 pill external amp that's rated at 1200 watts and you will get 900 watts.
If distortion was so bad than how is everyone on super bowl 6 easy and clear to hear? They bleed over few channels too!
Clean cb signal will sound over modulated and will have the most bass and most boom and will swing better and sound louder....
Yet... wont go far...lol
Driving a radio too high will burn up your finals..... and it's not going to make you talk a mile further.
Depends on what radio is driving your amp.
Find the sweet spot.
Most cb shops dont deal with amps would they dont know how to shut it down.
If you wanna put the hammer down with a amp get a Connex or Galaxy or Ranger.
STYKER is for people who dont like wide waves.
Your Bandwidth loves a high Khz to get out hard and talk far.
Splatter is good. SPLATTER PISSES PEOPLE OFF.... more power
So much power that the RF will vibrate the speakers wire and act as a Talk back.
When I splatter I get about 30 miles on a 4 pill external amp. I'm not distorted. I dont run at full drive. I back it off about 50 percent on high
30 percent on low.
High drive amp needs more drive.
It will never swing... it will be distorted with swing.
Too much will be distorted too
Find the sweet spot for watt drive to the amp.
I say stick with Connex and run it to the Amp and shut it down and put the hammer down.
Because it works to well.
I've had these perfect scope tuned radios... with amp you are lucky to hit 10 miles.
When you make it wide open and back it off to get rid of distortion.... you are gonna shut the channel down and that's where it's the most fun. Ch 6 is perfect example ... mud duck and talking on different channels.
Styker is a professional radio good for professional talking.
Galaxcy good for mud ducking DX
Shutting it down.Tall Mike and HD_Renegade Thank this. -

Let me explain why Fine tune radios doesnt like amps or wide waves....
He talks on propagation too much and when conditions are right.
In everyday world that's not how to get out.
Also talking on propagations to different states doesnt mean your shutting down all states by real time voice.
For guys who wanna talk around town
Stay away from fine tune CB radios or strykers.
They are just confusing everyone and getting your business.
They need to take those scopes and shove it up thier A.
I talk 20 -30 miles splattering...
Not 1 person I've ever talked to said I was distorted or over modulated.Tall Mike Thanks this. -
Been into CB radios since I was 10...
Let me tell you this...
Texas Ranger and Magnum is the best CB radios period.
Galaxy and connex are also good.
Their AM modulation boards are top notch and they are well Built and built to the wideband amplitude Khz.
Strykers on the other side....... are a different animal by 100 percent.
Hands down styker is by far a cleaner more well engineered radio using better parts and materials.
Their radios are Narrowbanded Khz Bandwidth Of AM radio the filtering are very clean and kind of acts like a FM Sterio radio on the scope.
The radio puts on 90 watts pep power of crisp clear clean audio.
Not sure about thier durability since it's so new and hasn't been around long enough to prove its reputation for the new modern circuit design. The radios just dont pair well with amps I dont care what anyone says. It's all over youtube being proven.
Tho there are people who test thier amps with that radio for power
He said it best
GUYS.... I ......DONT..... WORK......ON......RADIOS.....
He repeated that 10 times clearly.
But its colorful and not cheap.
If you want to talk good solid 6 miles no static or fade in and out....
Go with Stryker....
If you want to throw the wave and get out far and be heard for miles and miles...
Go with a texas Ranger or connex or galaxcy.
They pair very very well with amps as long as they are matched 1/4
To 1/2 power to peak the amp and have good modulation sound with no distortion.
I would say the radio is based on preference.
Amp guys who like to talk on station as a hobbies should go with Ranger
Plug and play drivers who only talk on it for work not so much hobbies should go with a clean tuned 6 mile radio.
The strykers just dont pair well with amps.
Sometimes they work well... but depends on what well means to most cb shops.
You got a 4 pill it will talk up to 17 miles on a Galaxcy
You got a built in 4 pill 400 watt Galaxy radio driving a 4 pill box you will talk 30 miles.
You got a 4 pill it will talk up to 10 miles with a stryker and sound like trash.
Let me be clear on this, styker is using high quality paTall Mike and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
I don't know much about CB's but the 497hpc is leaps and bounds clearer than the cobra29 in the other truckTimin770 Thanks this.
-
Unfortunately the thing that makes these newer cobra radios sound bad, is the cheap plastic mic that comes with them. Like the ca-73. Put the silver uniden bearcat stock mic on these radios, and they sound really good.rabbiporkchop and Brettj3876 Thank this.
-
My dad did have the stryker peaked and tuned. Has a roadking Mic on it. Not sure if it has an amp or not. Supposedly pushing close to 100w and can prob reach out 10-12 mi maybe a tad more.
I'll look into that Mic for the 29 -
Also I might mention the Ranger SRA-198 noise cancelling Mic. I have this Mic on my cobra 25. Since it's a noise cancelling mic, I did have to mod the Mic amp section in the radio, to boost the audio output a little. It does sound good on about any radio. I paid $26 for it on eBay. -
Technically Ridgeline is right. They are junk right out of the box. They do have a lot of potential but with any amount of attenuation the average good technician wouldn't have a clue what he was looking at, nor would he be able to see or rectify the linearity issues. They do work fairly well right out of the Box but how many people use them right out of the Box without tampering with internal adjustments? I wouldn't exactly call them durable in the factory state, but they will outperform the average "service manual tune"
