    Question on the 955

Might need a radio with upper and lowers for a special contract I might get involved with.

Does the 955 have this and does it operate in regular cb mode stock or does it need a tech?

If the latter is the case, would a 655 be a better choice?

What is the optimum wattage output?
Some say not to exceed 100.
    Most say 80 is perfect.

    Your opinions?

The 955 does SSB and AM. The 655 is AM only. Both are 10-meter export radios and will need to be programmed to operate on CB. You can do it yourself with their programming cable and free software, or have it done by a tech. Typical output on either is around 80 watts peak.

    Thank you
    This confirms what I thought

I'm gonna need upper/lower for a specialized load I am currently considering.

You don't need a radio for a special contract with uppers and lowers, no one operates like that.

Its not wattage that dictates range and clearity..Yes wattage does have a part of it but its not the only thing..
You need a tech with all the nessary tools to properly tune the radio...Many times a factory tune is better than what a so called "tech" can do.....Many crank them and do all kinds of funky crap to make it look good on a power meter but it gets all distorted and called a scatter box...Scatter box is when your radio is set on any one specific freq but some signal also over flows on freq above and below the one your on...
Not suggesting any tec but before you let anyone touch the radio go watch the vids on youtube under fine tune cb..

Splatter box, you talk on 19 but you do create interference on others channels, some do lot's of damage.

What you need is something simple and most importantly a good antenna match to the radio.

    Keep it simple & enjoy.

Heard one of those splatter boxes last night up in Waterloo. He was on 25, splattering all over 19.
