Thats what happens when you let just any tech crank up the radio..its like a car with way to much power..just spins its wheels, looks good on a dyno but not useable..

This is not what I have in mind.
Yes, I would like to achieve a bit more distance but not at the risk of causing a distraction to others.

My Cobra 29 is not the classic but the digital version with built in NOAH frequency. This comes in handy as inclement weather is approaching.

I do hate it when the darn thing wakes up even when it is in an (OFF) position. It sounds like an air raid in progress and generally scares the crap out of me.

But it does notify me when the proverbial crap is about to hit the fan.

Had a classic back in the 90's that did that to me..I was driveibg and it went off and yes it did scare me to..I was new to it all and thought somethin was wrong with the radio..Turned it off and same thing, kept maken the warming,i reached up and pulled power wire...I temember swearing cause i just had an echo board put in it and thought it messed up my radio...Brought it to a shop and told the guy the radio squeeled..He tested and said it was fine..After a few more min of talkin he figured out it was the weather warning and laughed his arse off..I felt like a fool..

First time it happened, my wife was with me. Big thunder storm approaching Biloxi.

    #### thing went off, and the radio was off. We jumped out of the bunk thinking Godzilla had just dropped by.

I just now compared my 655's internal swr meter to a vintage Midland swr meter and a relatively new Astatic swr meter. All 3 agreed. However, folks should consider these results to be anecdotal. Do not rely only on the internal because YMMV. Get yourself a stand-alone SWR meter

My internal is about dead on with my 2 analyzers so im happy with it..I have the swr protect on and voltage protect, both have made me aware of crap build up or snow/slush ect a few times..
Friggin winter, messes up my system a cpl times a season no matter what i try to weather proof..
Which reminds me,time for another clean up when i get to warmer weather in a few days..
