Best advice I got from an ODOT officer....

"Treat your spread like it was a tandem and you'll have no problems with me or any other officer..."

I can't believe this guy is still sitting there. Granted it was his fault for not scaling the load but I would never let my company treat me in this manner. Drop that trailer and head to a TS for a shower and a meal, let your DM figure it out.

as Bumpy posted, the majority of us are wanting to help him,not chastise him.Op needs to get showered, eat real food, and feel better then allow the fresh thought processes to flow.after a while in the situation he is in,everything gets stale.I know it would for me.

Unless things have changed drastically in the last few months, being shut down for overweight is not an OOS. Weight and measure is a state issue, OOS relates to the green book.

Ya might just make sure you're upon a mighty steed and not a jack ### before you turn on the 'high and mighty'. Just sayin'

It doesn't matter, you have two choices in a situation like that. You either drive out of your way to scale or you go around the coop if you are not sure. Lumber coming from Amish isn't kiln dried and much heavier than what you buy in the store. This is where a load gauge comes in handy.

Always carry you 3 days of supplies too. This is one reason why. You never know when you'll get stranded whether it be OoS, weather or a customer.

It sucks but on the bright side it's invaluable experience.

Let's say you did stop in them 300 miles and scaled. What would you have done?

Hoping is not an option. The weight does have to come off before you budge. Call your dispatcher and let them work it out.

Just so you know which I'm sure you won't or you wouldn't have been there that long.

    OoS violation

Even though it's an overweight the vehicle is considered unsafe to drive which does put it within the OoS regulations.

I would have given dispatch 4 hours to make up their mind, then I would have bobtailed to a truckstop.

You could have gotten on the CB and asked for help from a empty flatbedder. Most would have helped if you did most of the load transfer, but a few might have taken the lumber and ran with it. But doubtful if they could have done anything with it being on the road.

An ad on CraigsList would have yielded good results and you wouldn't have had to do any work. The missing lumber would have been noticed if the BOLs stated how many bundles there are.

I agree that people should read the friggin' thread before posting and to stop saying "I think you can get a permit" or other stupid nonsense.

If I was any where near there , my pickup would have showed up and removed any extra weight by now.

agree 100% . Id ask to speak to someone with push, a manager not a pencil pushing "dispatcher" that has no clue or intention of fixing any problems and is only good for accepctin "check" calls.

what do these companies think hiring dispatchers like this. Company is also loosing money by letting you sit and rot there.

Psh.. I wouldn't even ask. In the absence of direction, do what's best for you first, and what's best for the company second.

Yeah he can bobtail. He just can't move that trailer. If I was there I would take it off your hand and feed you! :)

It's pretty crappy if you ask me. I wouldn't be at that company long. They could of at least put him up in a motel or gave him some direction. I didn't even check who it was? Maybe they don't have a truck in the area and being 300 miles away from the customer they are scratching their heads what to do. A wrecker will take it off but they'll charge a ridiculous service and storage fee
