Hmm after i read this thread yesterday i was hoping this will never happen to me. I have scaled 90% of my loads because they are heavy most of the time. Today in late afternoon i picked up a load from Carlisle, PA to FL.I was just 6 miles from the Loves, Petro n Flying J and all they had a CAT scale - guess what an accident happen as i tried to get on I81N was jammed with trucks and cars, police closed the ramps to I81N to Harrisburg, PA so i decided will take pa34 to US15S to Frederick and 270 to 495 to I95S. Nowhere i see scale to check my weight - load was 42180 on bill, my truck n trailer are ~ 37500. I should be ok on gross but axles are the question. As an old habit because my load is all same pallets i slided trailer on 6-7 hole where the last pallets end. I used the app on my Iphone to check if scales are open - the app showed scale on I270S closed but was open. So when I enter the MD Scale they held me for more than 30 sec - i told that was a call in, but no thanks God they let me go. Now i am still worry for the I95S till i get the truck stops in VA. Even they let me go I am still not sure if my weight is ok. This was a first time that i had to run thru scale with very heavy load without checking the weight, i dont wanna do it again. So soon or later this can happen to any of us :(

VA will tell you if an axle is over, how much it is over, and they will let you pull around, slide and weigh until you get it right.

Very right, thank you - I95S Dumfries, VA - she was nice, told me that i am over 1400 :biggrin_2552: to pull adjusted and reweigh. I moved 4 holes and everything was fine. Just scaled at TA Ashland, VA - 11940, 33520, 33240 - Total 78700 with only quater fuel. I am going to move one more hole (the last one) and fill up my tanks.

I like Ashland. Always plenty of parking, lots of food options within walking distance, and walmart about 1/4 mile away.

Not picking on you , but for future uses , just north of Gettysburg there is a fuel stop , that has a scale there on Rt 15 . One exit south of hwy 34 , exit for 234 . Has a good restaurant in there too.

NY and PA allow 3% or 4% over on your weight IME.

BTW, how in the heck does a SUV kill a truck driver in a head on collision?

When the body suddenly stops, the insides do not. It could result in a torn aorta, blunt trauma to the heart or many other things.

And if he was using a seat belt, like many of you do not.

And think of what you carry around on your top bunk. One of those things coming at the back of your head (microwave, TV, fridge, cooler, etc) at 45-50mph can't be good.
