I have bad credit but need a student loan to get my schooling for my cdl going. Who would I talk to and what do i need to do to get it and how long would I receive the student loan. And does it have to be the amount the schooling costs or can I ask for more to get a more reliable car and get on my feet a little bit before heading out on the road? Thanks in advance

Now, let me preface this by saying I dont know.
But, my assumption with student loans is that they can only be used for tuition, and maybe books.
Also, you may want to consider cdl sponsored training. Decent option for first year -
You may not even need a car after you start driving a truck OTR that is if you will be trying to land a home every night driving job then you will need a good car?

If you do company training Millis isn't free but only $100 up front and also not a bad company.
-
Millis is $500. One hundred deposit taken at the time you pick your class start date and $400 in cash the first day of school.

Swift ....... Won't cost you anything up front and you pay it off by working for them. Yes I did it many years ago. Everyone makes fun of Swift but I found Swift easy , very easy. If your head is screwed on right it is an easy way to get a trade and a paid for CDL. I think it was about $2,000 for the whole thing but this is about 15 years ago. No idea what it costs now .....
123456 and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
During your first year Swift deducts every week to pay off the loan, then during the second year they pay you back at the same rate.
If you stay with them for two years you end up paying nothing.Suspect Zero Thanks this. -
Student loans are, were? Low interest government loans for the purposes TheRipper said. Schools normally have counselors to help set those up. Payments are not due until after graduation.
I know some CDL students financed through Rattle Snake Finance in Tampa and their school set that up.
The company deal may not be so bad if you are looking for a job anyway plus it's a career.
Just hope you have the sense God gave a goose. They normally do not fly into things that hurt themselves or others. Good luck. -
Go the sponsorship route. I'm drowning in 30k school debt (low compared to some) from a failed career.
Suspect Zero and Chinatown Thank this. -
Try to get trained by prime. You won't owe them any money but gotta have a year commitment. Which is fine because they are a great starter company.
