Talk to the state about the WIOA program.
Google : WIOA Program Minnesota
This program pays for CDL school. If this doesn't appeal to you, just apply to company sponsored schools. You won't be home on weekends though, so sacrifices must be made.

What career ? I meet so many people that have college degrees in things they never ended up working in that particular field they got the degree in.

What's a weekend?FullMetalJacket and Chinatown Thank this.

Trade. Automotive technician.
Wouldn't be so bad if I had a actual bachelors from it but I don't even have an associates from it so that part left me kinda bitter. If I had a few math classes I woulda qualified for a mechanical engineering associates. -
Any chance you can salvage that career and make it work? You will make way more money as a auto mechanic for the time you put in vs a trucker. Especially if you can slide your way into diesel mechanic.

I'm making more money in this truck.
I'm grossing over 1k a week vs 4 or 5hundred a week. Plus I'm happier.
Acually at the last dealership I was at I took home 250$ a week.... I starved working there
I just hated it. I like wrenching around on cars but not professionaly. And even then I prefer bikes. I can acutely get to everything on a bike vs digging from 4 hours and removing half a motor just to get to one stupid bolt to do something g stupid.
Plus I couldn't do rigs. For one, I'd have to go back to school. I'm only light duty diesel certified not heavy duty. And I'd rather drive these things not figure out how to monkey around the motor. In a pinch I could fix probably 99% of anything on my truck but id rather not91B20H8 Thanks this. -
Well it's good you found something that makes you happy. Sucks about the student loans tho

Yep. I'm basicly following 5 year old logic with them right now. Put my fingers in my ears and yell lalalalalalalala and problems go away.
Idk I'll figure them out eventually. I may end up trying some legal stuff to get out of them due to the fact that they really didn't (atleast in my opinion) prepare me for the automotive field. But that's a story for another drunken night -
Yep I have wrenched on everything from my marine diesels when I was in the commercial watersports business to hardcore wrenching on all my cars for the last 40 years.
I can't imagine having to wrench on stuff everyday for a living with the way the motors are buried .91B20H8 Thanks this. -
I got sick of wrenching and won't even change the oil in my car anymore. If I was forced to go back to wrenching, I'd be a refrigerated trailer mechanic.
Trucking can be a very good career if you look around and find the right niche that suits you.tommymonza Thanks this.
