Look at overseas employment. If you are going to be gone for extended periods of time, you might as well get paid for it. Lots of big contractors pay very well for jobs overseas. You can make 100k in a year. The first 80k is tax free.

Why waste your time working for peanuts with these crappy trucking companies?

Dispatchers and others go home to their families because they didnt choose to be a driver that is out on the road away from theirs... I know my dispatcher goes home at the end of his day.. and if I want I could apply to be a dispatcher...

You come off as a big whiner to me.., you are the one choosing this as a career... if yoh want to be home with you family then choose something else.... what you whined about, pardon me, discribed is not that unusual in this industry.. when my truck broke down in Laredo I didnt even get put in a hotel... I stayed in the broken down truck for four days till the owner got there with the parts to fix it... I wasnt even at a truck stop.. had to walk a couple miles to one just to shower... and, I am sure there have been drivers who have been througn worse..

I am with Werner and have been since tbe first of the year... when werner sends students or driver in a rental car the also give them an efs check to cash for fuel.. if there are multiple people going the car and check are issued to o e person.. so, who ever fleet assignment rented the car for they would of been given an efs authorization code to cash for gas... werner has a lot of drivers who have no money at all when they arrive for orientation and they certainly dont assume or expect a student to pay for gas for a rental car...

I hope you realize that in trucking things can go wrong.. your truck can breakdown in the middle of nowhere and you are stuck there waiting for road breakdown.... which, in the middle of nowhere can mean hours and hours and hours.. your truck can be I. The shop for days.. and, no they are not gonna send you home to wait.. you stay where you are and you won t be checked into a Hilton....

Werner has new drivers showing up every week.. so, they are not gonna miss you, they are not gonna go under because you leave.... same with all the other companies... job hopping is only gonna get you so far..

Hey buddy. Werner has their own hotel right there on the Dallas Texas Terminal. It not the hood. Werner has a shuttle the comes around every hour to take you to any restaurant or walmart if needed. In fact Texas is 2nd only to the home terminal in Omaha. So I don't know where you were.

When I was there I think the shuttle was only once a day. It was kind of amusing they had put a fence between the McDonalds and the Hotel, supposedly to keep hookers out of the hotel. They turned a 2 minute walk into a 40 minute walk, so when I was there I would buy two subway Sandwiches so I would only need to make the walk once. Not a reason to get upset and quit the job, more of an annoyance. I still wonder why they didn't put a security gate in with a card reader to allow easier access to the McDonalds/subway, but I guess bottom line is they did not trust the drivers.

During the weekday they have 2 or 3 shuttles running. I was told the reason for the fence is because of 9/11. They are a transportation company and are required to maintain a curtain level of security.
