Stupid docks

My least favorite customer dock is a winery in Oregon. It's 70 feet from the front of the dock to a drop off down a wooded hill, so there is no straight backing. You have to make a 45 degree ally dock into a spot with only 4 inches of clearance on either side of the dock plate without dropping your front wheels off the embankment. Then you have to really make sure the load is secured for the 12.5% grade leaving the facility on a hilltop.

 

You notice right after he got out and walked around, he got out of it. Unfortunately after destroying the tractor.

 

There's a place like that I go too in Everett. Only it's a blind in lol. Have pics of it on the BLIND thread. It's also the same kind of grade going in. If the load isn't secured, you'll have a for real life disaster on your hands.

 

that's cuz you are an OTR driver, doing these local stops as you fill in for another driver. (your other thread where you complained about doing this)

you really need this extra experience, cuz if you were proficient enough, you'd have docked a stupid dock or a smart dock with nary a sweat...

Must be nice to have never been inexperienced at new at a job or had an off day. I guess super truckers aren't made, they're born.

 

They should, he now has actual experience. The company paid for that lesson and if they have any sense they'll get their money out of it. I'd bet that none of his students miss a bridge clearance sign on pain of their life.

To me that is one of the worst drawbacks of the cattle-hiring companies, they keep throwing the most valuable thing away (actual experience, esp painful) and only looking at immediate economics, not how much they endanger the public safety or hurt others financially through their actions.
