A company I used to work for sent me something like that(if I idle too much, they take $$$ from my check) in with my paycheck one week... It stated sign date and return. I laughed, and file it right in file #13.

Then, the next week another new one appears again with my check.. I giggled a bit, made a copy and threw it away again.

Next week, same thing. I think to myself, "Man, they are not getting the hint". Sure enough, boss calls and asks if I got the letter. I say, "Yeah, you guys are funny". Boss, "What do you mean"? Me, "You really think I'm gonna sign that"? Boss, "Here's you load number, get your butt to work"...
    Me, "LOL, yes sir".

How many states actually issue citations on a regular basis for idling? I take my lunch at a rest area on the PA Northeast Extension, and trucks are always idling there. I see troopers driving through the parking lot all the time, and never once seen them stop to write a ticket.

I used to worry about my idle time, but after a few times here and there where I didn't feel as safe on the roads the next day because I didn't get a good nights rest, I stopped worrying about it. I realized that my main goal during my 10 hours off is to make sure I can be rested and alert while driving the next day, even if that means idling the truck all night just because it is just a few degrees off from an ideal temperature. Thankfully my company agrees with me on this, and realizes that safety is more important than a little extra fuel burned.

Because of this, I try and stay in places where I will not be bothered about my idle time. Seems to be too many cops floating around rest areas worrying about what I am doing, so I try to avoid them as much as possible.
