Forgive me for this one as i'm new to the whole volvo family (been a technician all my life but never Volvo).....is there any way other than physically checking, to see if the injectors/cups have been changed in this new to me D16? Would the Volvo program show anything perhaps that would indicate it like injector reflash dates etc?

    Thanks
(And yes there will be more questions as we go...lol)

    Thanks

No. You can't see anything unless it was done at a dealer and had an RO written on it. If it was done anywhere at anytime by anyone you would have have a hard time finding out unless they left evidence of prior work. My friend has a 07 d16 and can only tell you you should have done your homework before you bought that thing. Sure it has power but it is no longer in production parts are rare and overpriced and wait time for ordered parts is longer. The cups are under the injectors and cant see them cam needs to be removed to get injectors out at that point you might as well change them. Will need to set valve clearance & depending on injector style. ....like d12d. You can reuse injectors but like the d13 can not reuse injectors. Of course you can reuse them but you'll most likely be doing cups again and again. Use the search function to look up repair info sometimes just put in D16 and you have to go Down the list. It is free to use download the PDF on whatever your trying to fix and forget the shop. I was a automotive tech for over 10 yrs prior to going onto trucking and i do a better job of fixing my truck then most shops

Thanks for the info....not worried about fixing it as i dont use it for commercial purposes. We have a saying in the industry i work in.... "they are all junk when they break".

Unfortunately Volvo has a bad habit about every 300k of Injector cups going out. They do offer stainless cups as a replacement, they seem to help with. But if long cranking is an issue then often more than not with a Volvo it’s cups.

Have they improved the design on the newer engines and if so what years?

I know some guys with 2019 and 2020 Volvo and emission problems are still a big issue, electrical and the cam lobes slipping on the hollow camshafts. The cam lobes are knurled and press fit on cam shaft

Thanks for the info gents! Just figured that if you had to "reprogram" for new injectors there would be some "log history" in the ECM.
