I will go a step further....somewhere in Colorado I got stopped at the port of entry because I had a brain fart and didn’t pay attention to the lights once. After I explained to the officer what I was I doing I indicated that sometimes I wished I would just go ahead and get my CDL so I wouldn’t get as many questions......his response was that would raise more concerns in his mind because if I didn’t need the CDL why would I go through the trouble

I used to drive a truck and didn't want to get rid of it just in case.

Funny story....this is actually the third rig I have owned, the first one I bought back in 2009 and that was the first time I ever sat in one of these rigs. I am 48 years old today as a point of reference.

Bought my first rig through an online auction, sight unseen other than pics. It was a 13 speed and I spent a lot of time on YouTube trying to understand how to shift trying to do it the right way by double clutching. Truck was about an hour away and when I first sat in it I realized how big it was. It was 89 international 9307 with a cat 3406B motor and a 60” sleeper.

Left the yard and couldn’t shift the thing. Had to come to the side of the road about 6 times and completely stop and start all over. Never got it into the next year and hit the mom and pop truck stop for fuel about a mile down the road. Had a old timer pull in next to me and I asked him for help....first thing he told me I was doing wrong was pushing in the clutch once I got moving. He taught me enough in 5 minutes to float the gears to get home. Downshifting at that time was still an issue but I eventually figured it out.

Wouldn’t recommend this for anyone but it can be done.

Today I am proud to be able to drive an 07 Pete 379

    Coffey Thanks this.

Believe it or not I have only had 1 officer climb in the cab and not a single one open the trailer.
