Lol. Nah, I'm ok with being a company driver... No interest in owning a truck...

that "completely unnecessary and complicated thing" is nothing more than a simple program written into the ecm activated by a switch. Just like in most vehicles when you turn the key to run all the dash lights will come on and the gauges will all max out and return to zero.

Dude. Lights tied into the ecm is the very definition of unnecessary.

I’ll park right behind a shiny trailer and check the glare.

Or the light ran through the ecm. Point is, it's a little more involved than just a simple ecm setting.

It's a simple program written into the car computer. No harder than writing a program that tests the dash lights and gauges when the key is turned.

No it isn't. For example all my gauges cycle when I power the key on. But the vast majority are not connected in any way shape or form to the ecm. Just because your car dies something doesn't mean your truck is built with the same systems integrated into each other.

Have you ever specced a new truck? There are literally thousands of different option's you can individually pick out. It isn't like buying a car where your choice is 3 different trim levels. You can easily spend an entire week with a sales rep spacing your truck to fit your needs and wants your way. Or you can let the salesman sell you a truck that is directed the way swift and Warner want theirs built fit their drivers that need a truck's lights and wipers wired through the ecm to 'prove' they pre tripped it and won't have the truck looking enough to worry about what those integrated systems cost 5 years down the road.
