It probably is, however to get a ticket written up for it you'd have to really displease some enforcement officer.
Stupid rookie question

Air horns should be illegal. There's no reason to have a horn that loud.

Dino soar, Lonesome and Blackshack46 Thank this.

Who here has been asked to honk their air when getting inspected?
I've never been asked. Not even in texas. Where i got a mudflap violation on inspection. Because it was flapping in the wind. But yet. NONE of their own locals have mudflaps.
Texas is an idiot state.Paddlewagon and Lonesome Thank this. -
One of the reasons I hated the Prostar. Dang horn is under the truck and can be broken off very easy.

I'm pretty sure you have to have one or the other, like air warning, light or buzzer. ( preferably both)
Regarding air horns on a truck, they are indeed needed. An air horn on a truck is very similar to a horn on a train, it's to warn others of a massive vehicle coming, that possibly can't stop. You know, when kids did that arm thing, beep the horn, I'd beep the service horn, the air horn is not a toy and for emergency only.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
boneebone Thanks this.

In reality it's up to the person that is inspecting you. But, when asked to honk your horn during an inspection honk your city horn tell them you do not have an air horn. Semis are not required to have an air horn by law. But if something is on the truck it must work or they can write you up for it.
