I would fight it and win because the regs state you must have a working horn. It’s not stated it must be an air horn. Fact, Sweetie!
-
Air horns should be illegal. There's no reason to have a horn that loud.
-
Don't piss off the guy with the airhorn and you won't hear it. If I need a horn I'm going for the loud stuff so four wheeler hears me. You want to make something illegal make these new LED,HID, whatever headlights that blind you when they sit right on your tail, I literally had to stop the other night to get some moron to pass me because they wouldn't back off.Dino soar, Lonesome and Blackshack46 Thank this.

Who here has been asked to honk their air when getting inspected?
I've never been asked. Not even in texas. Where i got a mudflap violation on inspection. Because it was flapping in the wind. But yet. NONE of their own locals have mudflaps.
Texas is an idiot state.Paddlewagon and Lonesome Thank this. -
One of the reasons I hated the Prostar. Dang horn is under the truck and can be broken off very easy.
-
As long as you have a city horn you are fine.
-
I'm pretty sure you have to have one or the other, like air warning, light or buzzer. ( preferably both)
Regarding air horns on a truck, they are indeed needed. An air horn on a truck is very similar to a horn on a train, it's to warn others of a massive vehicle coming, that possibly can't stop. You know, when kids did that arm thing, beep the horn, I'd beep the service horn, the air horn is not a toy and for emergency only.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
My last level 1 I was asked to honk BOTH horns..........I operate in Tx.boneebone Thanks this.
-
In reality it's up to the person that is inspecting you. But, when asked to honk your horn during an inspection honk your city horn tell them you do not have an air horn. Semis are not required to have an air horn by law. But if something is on the truck it must work or they can write you up for it.
