    oh shoot I take my brother in law with me sometimes and he is on welfare and don't work does that mean I could get wrote up for him

    I hear ya...We had a "goofball" at work that would lay on the air horn at 2am! We'd ask ,what are you doing.He"d say,,"Im doing a PROPER PRE-TRIP. Oh,OK well in that case.

    I think the correct answer is it should not be based on how the FMCSA worded the reg. However to the best of my recollection all Class 7 and 8 CMVs come equiped with an air horn. Most inspectors are going to expect to hear it when requested. This is one of those violations that get listed on the form and once it hits the feds takes an act of God to get removed. I advise against operating a CMV with either horn out.

    Yep, best to keep it working. Last 2 inspections in TX I had 1st things they checked where city horn, air horn, & reverse light on tractor. I’m running flatbed, another thing about TX, things you might not think you need edge protectors on, they might disagree. Good thing about TX is there not looking for minor log violations in my experience.

    I found a spot on the wheel where I can make it go off. All the way up top and to the right on the clean spot next to the radio buttons. So I guess I’ll let it go for now.
