He should conversing with owner operators from his area. On this forum we are all across the country, go out first hand and speak with locals. What he learns here and expects the same results will differ from where he is from. Hope this makes sense.

Only if he is looking for local work. With general questions about owning a truck location is irrelevant. I was just mainly commenting because the person I quoted made it sound like the OP didn't "deserve" to talk to owner operators because he didn't know the answer to a question.
-
Oh yes you're right. I'm such an idiot. You win. You're so smart.

As much as I agree with some of you, there is a problem with the statements made and the lack of business knowledge that the OP has.
Owning the truck is the easy part, the business end of it is the hard part.
Loads are out there it is a secondary thing that is called marketing and sales. BUT building the foundation around good business pratices is key, and it takes discipline to keep doing it right.
BUT I have found out in my years doing this a few owners out there who failed it seems to always go back to bad, or very bad business practices that forced them to flounder and fail.spyder7723 Thanks this. -
100% spot on. The op is not ready to be a business owner. But give the guy some credit, he has said it's a long term plan just in the starting stages. To me that sounds like he isn't running out and buying a truck next week, or even next year. Is coming across like he is planning for 3 to 5 years out.Last edited: Dec 12, 2016

There is the fourth thing. Attitude can make it difficult to find trucks willing to come back.
-
This is true at least 3 to 5 years. I believe every expert starts out as a beginner and I also believe you can always learn something from people that have done or are doing it.And I will actually agree I do lack the knowledge on the business end. And I would like to Learn more about it so everything any of you are telling me are teaching me a little more and any advice or tips on how I can continue to learn reliable information about the business end and the trucks I'm open to hear and appreciate

Best advice. Stop talking. Do more searching. And lots of reading. By searching and reading you will learn enough that you can then start asking real questions. asking a bunch of basic stuff will just lead to people ignoring you or not taking you seriously.Diesel Dave Thanks this.

This forum is full of information that your looking for. The questions you have been asking , have been ask many many times. Like @spyder7723 said, do all your searching and reading. It's all here. To tell you the truth, it is getting a little annoying being ask all the basic stuff. Not to mention you started another thread on local stuff. We all see it here. Now go to work and start your searching and reading on the TTR forum.
spyder7723 Thanks this. -
