It'll depend on your neck of the woods. I hate dry van and refer's myself. I do only heavy haul. But flat's are not bad to start with. Some area's van and refer's are more in demand. I will do any of them if it made more business sense.

Yes absolutely. Starting out I relied heavily on Internet truckstop. Made some contacts there, a few just stopped by the house cause they saw I had the equipment, and some by knocking on doors. I still do a fair bit of brokered freight. With a select group of brokers.

Cold calling to me has been the hardest way to find customers. I just don't like or really have the ability to be a salesman.

I barely trust myself if I were going to get my own truck. I wouldn't even want to hire a co-driver unless I knew them REALLY well. I would never feel comfortable about owning a truck and having someone else drive it for me. There are far too many problems. When I first started driving OTR, I worked for a mom and pop company with three trucks. They drove one, the other two had teams. They always had issues and ended up giving up the other two.

There is a lot of liability putting someone you barely know in a truck and sending them down the road.

I agree there aren't many I would trust driving something that I put my money into. I'm hoping to and have been building some good business relationships with drivers I come into contact with almost weekly. now I know they won't be around forever however I'm just focusing on getting to.know them and how they operate for now since this is not going to be an overnight thing if it would materialize at all I'm still keeping all the great information and point of views I'm getting in mind. I pay attention to how they take care of there trucks what there outlooks are .but after all the input I realize this maybe the hardest part or the " make or Break" of the whole thing.
