    Tiger and teqntexas,
I just point out the things that will hopefully allow you to see just a small part of the crap that comes with being on Owner Op, Don't get me wrong in time you will gain the experience to do so it is my opinion that having just a year of experience that it could be very tough.... Not to mention there are a TON of O/O on here who make money, that would tell you NO don't do it, not that they would not want you to succeed but for the simple reason "it takes a lot of work to be successful and it only takes a little to fail as an O/O."

    teqntexas and critters Thank this.

    Are you buying or leasing?

I would also highly suggest that you stay away from automatics if you are going to be footing the repair bill. They are very costly to repair!

I would also recommend you maybe gain a little more experience. Maybe take the time to drive some different trucks. Do you know how to drive a manual transmission?

petey 387,kw t2000,and the volvo 670.have any of you guys driven these before ?which model which motor? opinions on trucks ,thoughts experiences?in other words if you had 17,000 to 25,0000 which truck would you buy from this list? main concern would be dependability

Another piece of good advice....stay away from the lease purchase deals that these well known scam co's do...you will be much better off saving your own $$ to buy your own truck since you'll be able to get the truck that suits what you need and may want @ the price you can afford.

Also save $$ to have an emergency nest egg so to speak when you start so you're prepared for any minor issue with equipment that maybe come up on you.

Doc makes some great points and I have been doing a lot of research on the subject because I am considering doing the same thing. If you notice in all of the points Doc makes he mentions your costs incurred as an O/O and lists FUEL three times in the list. Since fuel is your largest expense then I would suggest that you look at areodynamic trucks and find out how they have performed in terms of fuel miliage over their lifetime. Some trucks look really cool and pretty but get terrible fuel miliage. Id put that at the top of my list because if you get decent MPG thats more money in your pocket to make your new company successful. Once you find the truck you want look for ways to make that MPG even better with things like low rolling resistance tires and upgrades that will add to overall performance. MPG is key to turning more of the gross income into net income.
