I was talking to electric today. He says that remote sense wire on Cascadia sometime makes problems. According to Delco it must be connected to battery with inline fuse installed. On Cascadia it's connected to PNDB and not to battery. So he suggested to disconnect remote sense wire on alternator and put jumper wire between B+ and S terminals. Or better way just put 14 ga wire between batteries + terminal and S terminal on alternator. He says there is a video on YouTube posted by Delco how to do it.
Dave_in_AZ, Rideandrepair and spsauerland Thank this. -
Regular.
I throw a slow charge on them about twice or maybe 3 times a year.spsauerland and mhyn Thank this. -
The 3 I just replaced were regular NAPA, Deka batteries, they lasted 4 yrs. I’d make sure whatever’s causing the shortened life was fixed, before spending big money on agms
Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
friend driver was saying batteries on Cascadia has short life because of engine heat. he was going to buy a Merritt battery box and relocate them between frames behind oh sleeper. I have not seen him long time and I don't know he did it or not . I have measured temperature of batteries summertime. sometime they get almost 140F.Dave_in_AZ and Rideandrepair Thank this.

No it’s an old Classic.I just mentioned it, thinking your Napa batteries should have lasted longer. Good batteries ( I think they were made by Deka).

The Sulfur smell can also be coming from your exhaust system. Did you last full up with ULSD (Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel) or somewhere that maybe had a higher sulfur rating? Something to think about when you smell sulfur, don’t just run right to your batteries as diesel also contains sulfur.
-
Yes diesel contains sulfur, but even back in the high-sulfur days, it didn't smell like H2S, which is what a bad battery produces. The sulfur dioxide produced by combustion of sulfur has a totally different odor (burnt matches)bigguns, spsauerland, Diesel Dave and 1 other person Thank this.
