I haul steel, and I very rarely scale out at less than 78,000 lbs. Now, there are a few Alcoa coils that run 50,500 lbs to 51,500 lbs, and my truck weighs 31,510lbs with me in it. When they put super singles on the same truck with an all aluminum trailer, the truck weighs 28,000 lbs.

That is the reason companies are using them.

I've heard that you can get .5 MPG for the tires on the tractor, and another .5 on the trailer. I average 6.5 MPG with them, and in better weather (I'm told) I can average 7.2.

You could completely flatten a small piece of roadkill with them, which I think is well worth it!

They do improve fuel economy, plus they last longer, and ride smoother.

Given that you're using a tire with a decent rolling resistance, a 0.5 mpg improvement is quite possible. Even if the tread depth is less on these tires, the lower fuel costs will more than make up for a loss of longevity in tire wear.

I've driven with both. The super singles without a doubt ride better.

Please explain to me what tread depth has to do with anything. The tire ply rating has to do a lot with longevity, not depth itself. That and since the load is more evenly distributed, there is less heat generated, and less rolling resistance.

I've driven on both as well...

well if my Brand new ss tires tread depth is 1/4 as deep as the brand new duals i had, dontcha think the one with a 1/4" of tread is going to burn off before a tire with more then 1" of tread?????

SS have less rolling resistance because there is 1.5" less tire touching the ground as compared to Duals, thus the claim for better fuel economy. Which goes right out the window while your sitting there spinning while stuck or idleing while chaining your SS trying to get unstuck.

Trust me you far better off let this argument go, I can sit here and disprove your SS are better then duals BS all day.

SS are only usefull if what you haul required you to be as light as possible (as in freight that pays by weight).
